Tony Feher: Blossom
November 7 – December 23, 2009
Opening Reception: Saturday November 7, 6-8pm
D’Amelio Terras is pleased to present “Blossom,” the debut of a new sculpture in five examples by Tony Feher. This fan-fold sculpture marks the artist’s latest venture with a familiar material in a new form as well as a shift in scale and volume. Each of the five examples stand four feet tall and eight feet wide.
Feher’s work is direct and often dictated by the inherent characteristics of his chosen material. “Blossom,” exhibits five bright, soft pink fans made of extruded polystyerene, notable in the industry for its “well established reputation for long-term reliability and superior resistance to the elemental forces of nature: time, water, cold, heat, and pressure.” Feher’s fans assert a monochromatic exuberance of color as their smooth-skins glow with reflected light. The accordian-like form has uniquely manufactured, hinged pleats that effortlessly support the exaggerated scale of these featherweight sculptures.
Tony Feher’s sculpture is represented in numerous public collections including the following: Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, Baltimore Museum of Art, Henry Art Gallery, Seattle, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA, Des Moines Art Center, Des Moines, IA and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas. In 2009, Feher exhibited at ACME, Los Angeles, California and Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge, England. Feher has had recent solo exhibitions at Anthony Meier Fine Art, San Francisco, PaceWildenstein and D’Amelio Terras, New York. Other recent exhibitions include “Some Time Soon” at the Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi; "A Single Act of Carelessness Will Result in the Eternal Loss of Beauty," the inaugural exhibition in the Efroymson Family Pavilion at the Indianapolis Museum of Art; and “Poetic Justice,” the 8th International Istanbul Biennial. In 2005, Feher was a featured artist at the Chinati Foundation, Marfa, Texas. Tony Feher is represented by PaceWildenstein and D’Amelio Terras.
